International workshop ‘Foresight and STI Policy: Recent Findings’ with participation of delegation from Malaysia organized by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge took place at the HSE University. The parties exchanged experiences implementing research projects in science, technology, and innovation and discussed promising areas for further cooperation.

Clouds Are Closer Than They Appear: Results of iFORA Foresight Session
Management intellectualisation, synergy with AI, and the transition to microclouds are expected to be the main trends in the digital economy over the next decade. Experts in cloud technologies gathered at HSE University for a foresight session to discuss these trends and their evolution up to 2040. They explored how process intellectualisation would develop, as well as ideas for storing data in space to minimise environmental impact.

The 25th Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development brought together leading Russian and Western scientists. Among the guests was Jose Luis Cordeiro, PhD, international fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, Chair of the Millennium Project's Venezuela node, former professor at MIPT and HSE University, and author of The Death of Death.

‘I See a Great Need for Organisations That Support Russian and Chinese Businesses’
Anastas Karagadaev, a graduate of the master’s programme ‘Science, Technology and Innovation Management and Policy’ at the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) at HSE University, achieved significant career success even during his student years. Back then, he actively participated in the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies at ISSEK and founded his own start-up. Currently, he is working on developing projectswithin the Russia–China Centre for Innovation Cooperation in Nanjing.

‘Geographical Distance No Longer a Problem’: ISSEK Fosters Cooperation with Think Tanks in BRICS Countries
In September, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge hosted an international working meeting with representatives from Brazilian, Egyptian, and Indian think tanks. The participants discussed opportunities for cooperation, including joint surveys, comparative studies, databases, and publications on foresight, technology, and innovation. It was also decided to draft a multilateral agreement to establish the BRICS Foresight Association.

HSE Experts Take Part in the First International Workshop on Technological Sustainability of BRICS
On September 19–20, Skoltech hosted the First International Workshop on Technological Sustainability of BRICS: University-Industry Partnerships, organised jointly with HSE University Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center. The meeting was held as part of the BRICS working group on technology foresight and science and technology studies.

‘We Bring Together the Best Russian Scientists and AI Researchers at HSE University Site’
On October 25–26, 2024, HSE University’s AI and Digital Science Institute and the AI Research Centre hold the Fall into ML 2024 conference in Moscow. This year’s event will focus on the prospects in development of fundamental artificial intelligence, with SBER as its conference title partner.

HSE University Welcomes a New Group of Postdocs
This autumn, 55 early-career researchers will start working at HSE University's campuses in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm. All of them have undergone a rigorous selection process and aim to make significant progress in both science and personal development during their participation in the Russian Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. This year, in addition to PhDs who are Russian citizens, HSE University welcomes their colleagues from Poland, Kazakhstan, and India who have earned their academic degrees from Russian universities. On September 17-18, orientation events were held for them at HSE University.

HSE University Releases Global Ranking of Top Cities for High-Tech and Creative Industries
Researchers at HSE ISSEK have released the third ranking of megacities based on their innovation attractiveness—HSE Global Cities Innovation Index 2024 (HSE GCII 2024). Moscow ranks ninth, while London, New York, and Tokyo lead the ranking. The top ten also include Beijing, San Francisco, Paris, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Seoul. In addition to Moscow, 25 other Russian cities are among the top 1,000, including St. Petersburg (73), Novosibirsk (183), and others.
