Educational activities

The English-language Master’s Programme “Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation” was developed in 2014 by HSE University's Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK).

The program is listed in the top 10 most in-demand university programs. In 2021, it received the EPAS international accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development.

 

LST staff members teach courses in HSE University's Russian- and English-language bachelor's and master's programs: "Science, Technology and Innovation Management and Policy", "Business Analytics" (MBA), "Corporate Finance", etc.

    2012-2014

    In 2012-2014 leading staff of the Reseach Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies and Research Laboratory for Economics of Innovation jointly organised and delivered  a universitywide selective course "Science, Technology and Innovation: Analysis, Strategies and Policies". Two courses were introduced as parts of this selective course providing a multi-disciplinary approach to the theory of innovation in terms of economics, management, sociology, political science and other fields of science as well as opportunities of its application in the Russian institutional and socio-economic context:

    • course 1. "Social and Economic Analysis of Science, Technology and Innovation" (incl. such parts as "Science, Technology and Innovation: Evolution of research", "Economics of Science, Technology and Innovation", "Management of Science, Technology and Innovation", "Scanning and shaping Science, Technology and Innovation");
    • course 2. "Strategies and policies for Science, Technology and Innovation" (incl. such parts as "Regulation and public policy for Science, Technology and Innovation", "Science, Technology and Innovation in contemporary innovation systems",  «New phenomena in Science, Technology and Innovation», «Financing and motivating innovation»).

    In 2011-2012 the representatives of the Research Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies - Dirk Meissner and Jean Guinet organised and delivered a course on "Science, Technology and Innovation Policy" within the HSE Faculty of Public Administration program. 

    The course provided a brief background and characteristics of state and perspectives of science, technology and innovation policy. The conceptual apparatus was considered to describe the scope of science, technology and innovation, definitions of basic concepts were provided, including the definition of the national innovation system as an integrated analytical framework, the detailed analysis of key policy objectives, the development of specific measures and the use of policy instruments in different contexts. The course also covered the basic approach and specific methodology used to assess the effectiveness and impact of general science, technology and innovation policies as well as individual policies.
